Disgruntled CCC losing candidates in Bulawayo have threatened to approach and work with Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ), to unseat CCC candidates who triumphed during the just ended caucuses held last weekend.
A source who spoke to this publication said that the losing candidates launched an appeal demanding a re-run, but the CCC Independent Selection Panel has since thrown the appeal into the bin.
“The caucuses in Nketa, Nkulumane and Cowdray Park were rendered chaotic. Khupe doesn’t have support and she was just imposed by a faction linked to Welshman Ncube. In Nketa, Chibaya’s frantic efforts to impose his girlfriend, Memory Makasi, were futile because the latter got zero votes in some wards. Mandla Nyathi is pulling a tribal card against Obert Manduna, whom he is accusing of bussing Shona supporters from other constituencies. Ambrose Sibindi, who was anchored by residents’ associations, lost in the race and did not gunner a single vote in some wards. In Nkulumane, Desire Moyo reportedly won against Kucaca Phulu, but the latter used his political muscles to take over the race,” revealed the source.
Further revelations were that, the losing candidates held a caucus in Bulawayo to draft their appeal. They charged that failure by CCC leadership to address their grievances, they would act otherwise.
“We received tip offs that some of the losing candidates are already in contact with ZANU PF’s FAZ members and planning to donate the constituencies to ZANU PF through protest vote. Some of them are threatening to contest as independent candidates. This is detrimental to the party and it’s time president Chamisa whips losing candidates into line. Elections are a competition, some win whilst others lose. This candidate selection process has brought more harm than good to the party,” lamented one CCC senior member, who refused to be identified.
The CCC candidate selection process has been marred by irregularities, with other senior members such as Chibaya and Chinobva accused of imposing their preferred candidates and demanding bribes. The developments have delayed the party’s candidate selection hence affecting its mobilization activities.
