A Gweru farmer, Matilda Manhambo has secured international markets for her peas which she has successfully and constantly produced on her 56 hectare farm in the Dosert area of Gweru.

Speaking to this publication, Manhambo informed that securing markets in Netherlands, France and Germany has been her greatest achievement as her receipts will generate the much needed foreign currency to the country.

"I am happy that I was able to secure international markets for my peas produce, it guarantees a sustainable inflow of foreign currency not only for my purse, but also for the country through foreign currency remittances,” said Manhambo.

Furthermore, Manhambo commended the Government for prioritizing women in the land distribution as it has given her and her family a livelihood.

"I am grateful to the Government for allocating me this piece of land, I have been able to improve my family’s welfare and significantly contribute toward the growth of Zimbabwe's economy," she said.

Moreover, economic analyst, Abedinigo Matsika applauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement policy, which he says has been a bridge between the Zimbabwean farmers and the European markets.

“The President’s drive for engagement and re-engagement has paid off greatly as many Zimbabwean farmers have started landing European markets for their produce. We commend the President for his unwavering focus towards an empowered Upper Middle Income Society by 2023,” said Matsika.

Meanwhile, the empowerment of women through agriculture promotes economic growth while also contributing toward annihilation of income inequality between men and women as Government focuses on achieving vision 2030.
