Zim-Kenya further strengthen bilateral ties

The Mid Term Review of the 3rd Session of the Zimbabwe-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission of Co-operation (JPCC) was concluded today, in Harare with the two countries signing MOUs on the pending bilateral decisions.

Presiding over the adoption of the Mid Term Review (MTR) minutes drafted by JPCC, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador James Manzou said that fraternal relations would continue to grow between the two countries.

“I have no doubt that this meeting was a success. Important lessons have been learnt and dialogue will create space for future endeavors. Fruitful information has been obtained for future engagements and the upcoming 4th Session of JPCC.

“The robust engagements between our two countries have given us the opportunity to look in the past and future on how we can improve cooperation between our two countries,” he said.

Zimbabwe and Kenya utilized the JPCC platform to create joint working teams from different sectors of the economy such as mining, energy, trade and commerce, and science and technology.

The MOUs were drafted and signed to further strengthen relations in the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Ambassador George M. Orina Director General responsible for Bilateral and Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya said, “We should utilize JPCC to resolve issues which impede cooperation. Indeed, we have made great strides and we should note of the robust engagement we have.”

Kenya undertook to support Zimbabwe’s bid to become a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the period 2027 to 2028.

Meanwhile, a decision was also made by the MTR that Zimbabwe will host the 4th Session of the JPCC in March 2024.
