Zimbabwe is set to attend the Osaka Expo to be held in Japan in April 2025.
The expo will promote Zimbabwean products in tourism, mining and agriculture to international markets and investors.
Addressing members of the media in Harare yesterday, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador James Manzou confirmed Zimbabwe’s attendance at the Osaka Expo next year.
“It is my pleasure to officially announce that Zimbabwe will be participating at the global showcase, Expo 2025, to be held in Osaka, Japan in Kansai Province, which is located in the country’s foremost strategic location of Honshu Island. The six-month-long Expo which will be held from 13 April-13 October 2025, will run under the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, said Ambassador Manzou.
Ambassador Manzou added that it was befitting that Expo 2025 was being held on Japan’s main island of Honshu; home to the country’s major cities and a citadel of cultural heritage sites among an array of other attractions that the country offers. He added that Zimbabwe could not wait to participate at this prime event which is 23 months away.
Speaking at the same event, Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Satoshi Tanaka said that the Osaka Expo would further strengthen the bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and his country. Ambassador Tanaka said Japan understands challenges faced by developing countries, hence his country had set aside funding for technical assistance for up to 100 developing nations.
The Chief Executive Officer of ZimTrade and Commissioner General for Osaka Expo 2025, Allan Majuru said that the objectives of Zimbabwe’s participation at the Expo was to promote brand Zimbabwe, trade and investment and also find out how to position the country in the global competitive village.
Quizzed by journalists over the expected outcomes of the exhibition in Osaka, Majuru said, “We are expecting 10 percent export growth and 15 percent growth in tourism after the expo is done”.
The Osaka 2025 will bring together people from all over the world to share ideas, innovations, and experiences.
