Cabinet has said that the community
radio stations have transformed rural communities, as they have become authoritative sources for information.
Speaking to the media after yesterday Cabinet session, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said that Government has launched successive community radio stations in rural areas, to promote access to information in line with the Government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind in terms of development.
“The establishment of Community Radio stations has transformed, focused and united rural communities. The stations have become authoritative sources of accurate and reliable information on voter registration, health issues and the Second Republic’s Vision 2030,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
The Minister added that Government had recorded progress in the establishment of community radio stations, as evidenced by the completion of Nyami-Nyami FM Expansion and the re-launch of Platinum FM in Chinhoyi.
Minister Mutsvangwa said that there was also progress on Mbembesi Radio Community Trust, which has since secured a studio building and installation of equipment was on-going.
According to Minister Mutsvangwa, Radio Bukulanga project in Plumtree District has identified the site for broadcasting and has since trained its staff and procured studio equipment. She added that other radio stations across the country were still undergoing renovations and obtaining equipment to be used for broadcasting.
Minister Mutsvangwa added that her Ministry reintroduced the mobile cinema also known as bioscope Interactive Outreach Programme. The pilot programme was rolled out in Manicaland Province at Kopa and Ngangu in Chimanimani District, as well as at Gaza and Madziyire in Buhera.
Meanwhile with regards to undocumented national heroes, the Minister said that research has been conducted and obituaries have been documented on 6 undocumented national heroes. These heroes are Comrade David Guzuzu, Godfrey Manyerere, Mtshane Khumalo, Percy Ntini, Godwin Dube and Commissioner Stanley Matunhira.
