Internal fissures in the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have reached a boiling point as that party’s interim chairperson, Thabitha Khumalo was against Thokozani Khupe’s candidature in Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park constituency.

A source who spoke to this publication said that, Khumalo was of the view that Khupe was a traitor whose candidature in Cowdray Park would lead to voter apathy.

“Khumalo is against Khupe’s candidature in Cowdry Park. Khumalo is of the view that Khupe is a traitor whose candidature in Cowdray Park would lead to voter apathy. According to Khumalo, Khupe should not be allowed to represent CCC in any election as she was a person of questionable loyalty to Nelson Chamisa,” said the source.

The same source added that Khumalo wanted a more seasoned member to contest in Cowdray Park instead of Khupe.

“Khumalo is arguing that ZANU PF has fielded a strong candidate, Mthuli Ncube in Cowdray Park, hence CCC should do the same by also fielding a strong candidate. Khumalo argues that due to Khupe’s reputation as a political turncoat, CCC might be defeated in Cowdray Park as most of CCC members no longer trust her,” said the source.

Furthermore, the source opined that Khumalo wanted someone with a strong financial backing to contest against Mthuli Ncube in Cowdray Park, arguing that, that party’s coffers were in the red and Khumalo doubted Khupe’s financial muscle to battle it out with Ncube.

Additionally, the source informed this publication that CCC was bedeviled by chaos citing CCC Bulawayo Province’s endorsement of Welshman Ncube as that party’s presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections. The source added that the discord in CCC might cost that party in this year’s elections.

 Efforts to get a comment form CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
