As the country’s harmonized general elections edge closer, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is having challenges in identifying candidates to represent it in rural areas.
A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC failed to come up with candidates who would represent it in rural constituencies and wards and has resorted to urging urban dwellers to consider contesting in rural areas on behalf of CCC.
The source added that CCC failed to come up with candidates to represent it in Mashonaland Central province, a clear sign that the Mugwazo mobilization strategy failed to yield results.
“CCC failed to field candidates to contest in most rural constituencies and wards in Mashonaland Central. This has made the party to resort to importation of candidates from urban areas to contest in rural areas. The party members who oversaw the Mugwazo mobilization strategy is shocked by the resistance they are facing in rural areas. They had underestimated the influence of ZANU PF support within that area,” revealed the source.
Additionally, the source revealed that this set back had led to CCC withholding the announcement of the outcome of the candidate selection process as they had nothing to present in some areas.
“The failure by CCC to field candidates in some areas has led to some members proposing that the candidate selection results be withheld in some areas to save the party from ridicule. The recently held candidate selection process is a clear sign that the Mugwazo strategy has failed. Its proving to be a daunting task for CCC to penetrate rural areas,” said the source.
Meanwhile, another source revealed that the CCC candidate selection process had been marred by chicanery and chaos with party members alleging that it went against the ethics of democracy.
Further revelations from the source indicated that CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa, was being accused of pushing for his proxies to represent that party in the forthcoming elections.
