CCC councillors in hot soup with Chamisa

Nelson Chamisa has threatened with expulsion Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors who attended the ceremony to award President Emmerson Mnangagwa the Freedom of the City of Gweru status last week.

Last Friday, the President was conferred with the Freedom of the City of Gweru status in honour of his vast and iconic contributions towards that City, the Midlands Province and the nation at large that have transformed communities.

A number of CCC councillors attended the event since it was a municipal event. However, Chamisa was angered by the presence of his councillors at the event and has since tasked Amos Chibaya to compile a list of councillors who attended the event with the view to expel or suspend them from that party.

“Councillors who attended the event are in hot soup with Chamisa. They have risked their political careers by attending the event. Chamisa has since ordered Chibaya to work with the party’s security department to compile a list of councillors who attended the ceremony. These councillors are going to face the full wrath of the president (Chamisa),”said the source.

According to the source, Chamisa wanted CCC councillors to boycott the ceremony arguing that it was not a Government event but an occasion to honour his rival, President Mnangagwa.

The same source added that councillors who graced the occasion were likely not going to be endorsed as that party’s candidates during the candidates’ selection process due tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a councillor who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said that they were obliged to attend the event as it was a municipal programme. The same councillor added that Chamisa should learn to separate party politics and municipal duties.

“We should not be victimised for conducting our municipal duties. The president (Chamisa) must not interfere with the operations and decisions of municipalities. If they don’t want to endorse us as candidates because we attended the ceremony, then we will be glad to accept the decision as we have not wronged anyone,” said the councillor.

This is not the first time Chamisa has threatened his members as last year he threatened with expulsion legislators who received the US$40 000 housing loans extended to them by Government.

Meanwhile, CCC candidates’ selection is on tomorrow, yet a number of CCC supporters are not aware of how the candidates would be selected.
