CCC pushing for postponement of 2023 polls

The beleaguered opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party is pushing for the postponement of this year’s plebiscite as it is not prepared for same.

A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC’s house was not in order and was making frantic efforts to cause the postponement of this year’s elections.

According to the source, CCC engaged a Bulawayo based political activist, pastor and businessman, Anglistone Sibanda, who held a press conference on Saturday claiming that the current political environment was not conducive for credible polls.

“The party (CCC) engaged Sibanda so that he would push for the postponement of this year’s polls on the basis that the current political environment was heavily tilted in favour of ZANU PF. Last Saturday, Sibanda held a press conference in Bulawayo under the theme: ‘The Voices of the Ordinary People of Zimbabwe ahead of the 2023 elections’ and advocated the postponement of this year’s elections,” said the source.

According to the source, CCC is ill prepared for this year’s polls and is afraid of a massive defeat at the hands of ZANU PF. The source added that all what Sibanda was doing at the weekend’s press conference was to try to buy time on behalf of CCC.

The source added that during the press conference, Sibanda begged the country’s political players to coalesce together and form a Government of National Unity instead of going for polls.

The same source added that during the press conference, Sibanda was flanked by some known CCC members, giving credence that he was a mouthpiece for that party.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF is going ahead with its preparations for this year’s elections as it conducted successful primary elections just last week. President Mnangagwa is expected to announce the date for this year’s elections soon.
