President Mnangagwa has urged the media fraternity to be responsible and focus on uniting Zimbabweans as the nation inches towards elections.
Addressing thousands gathered at the national shrine for the burial of the late Cde Christopher Mushowe, President Mnangagwa urged the media fraternity to be responsible as the Second Republic accelerates socio economic development. He mentioned that the media should unite the people as the nation heads towards elections.
"As we accelerate our socio-economic development and more importantly prepare for the upcoming Harmonized General Elections, I call upon the media to be responsible and always seek to unite the people of our great country," said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa further encouraged the media and the journalists to be patriotic and never engage in underhand dealings which can tarnish the image of Zimbabwe just for the love of money.
"This is the only Zimbabwe that we have, this is our motherland and media practitioners must never sell our birth right for a few pieces of silver," said President Mnangagwa.
Meanwhile, the President challenged the nation to draw inspiration from the late Dr. Mushowe whose character resembled simplicity, sociability and was committed to hard work.
"I challenge Zimbabweans both locally and abroad to draw inspiration and be guided by his exemplary qualities which included simplicity, humility, sociability, integrity, dedication to hard work and unflinching patriotism," said President Mnangagwa.
The late Cde Mushowe was described as a selfless person who put the interests of the nation first, which dovetails with the "Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa libuswe ngabanikazi balo" mantra.
President Mnangagwa encouraged everyone to act collectively to build a modern, and industrialised Zimbabwe.
