Some Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members have said that their leader, Nelson Chamisa was a stooge who was not in control of that opposition movement.

A CCC insider who spoke to this publication said that there is a belief within that party that Chamisa was not in charge but was being controlled by some people at the American Embassy in Westgate, Harare.

“There is a growing belief within CCC that Chamisa is just a stooge of the Americans. He can’t make a quick decision and always consult with the American Embassy in Harare,” said the source.

The same source added that Chamisa does not take advice from other senior CCC members and he only implements programmes that would have been directed by his handlers.

According to the source, Chamisa has been instructed by his handlers not to appoint substantive leaders as they might gang up against him and wrestle the presidential throne from him.

“This delay in appointing substantive leaders is a directive from the American Embassy who wants Chamisa to be the only recognised leader within CCC. The Americans are afraid that if substantive leaders are appointed, they might compete for limelight with Chamisa,” said the source.

The same source further claimed that CCC has not yet started crafting the 2023 elections manifesto as Chamisa is still waiting for guidance from his handlers. The source added that there were also reports that CCC manifesto was being written by the Americans.

Meanwhile, some CCC members have lost confidence in Chamisa’s leadership and are advocating for Tendai Biti or Job Sikhala to take over the leadership reigns.
