Women in the mining sector have commended President Mnangagwa for putting in place policies that promote women empowerment.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said that a total of 200 women were supported with money through the African Development Bank in Guruve.

“A total of 200 women has been supported with US$500 000 dollars from the African Development Bank (ADB) for the construction of a Gold Milling Centre in Guruve. The centre is an effective women empowerment initiative that will provide gold milling services to small scale miners and the project is part of Government’s thrust towards organised informal sector and its formalisation. In turn this will increase foreign currency generation, employment creation and promotion of rural industrialisation which are some of the benefits of this program” read the statement.

Zimbabwe Miners Federation Mashonaland Central chairperson, Christine Munyoro said that President Mnangagwa’s administration has come up with policies meant to empower women in the mining sector.

“We are grateful to President Mnangagwa who has brought in policies that promote women participation in the mining sector. We also thank the Government for opening a gold milling centre in Guruve. This centre will assist women in mining and processing their gold ore without hassles,” said Munyoro.

Munyoro further commended the Government for its continued efforts which have allowed women to participate in the development of the country in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

Meanwhile, the Second Republic has been committed to ensuring that women participate equally and have access to and control over capital and productive resources. The Government has also thrived to empower women in the economy and closing gender gaps in pursuit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Goal Five.
