Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim organising secretary, Amos Chibaya was last Wednesday booed at the funeral of that party’s member in Masvingo forcing him to leave in
a hurry fearing further humiliation by mourners.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Chibaya was the senior CCC member at the funeral of 80 year old Samuel Jaricha who died in South Africa on 31 December last year. According to the source, Chibaya wanted to give a graveside speech and was booed by mourners who accused CCC of neglecting Jaricha during his time of illness.
“Chibaya was one of the mourners at Machingambi village under Chief Marozva in Masvingo and wanted to give a speech at the funeral of Baba Jaricha. However, he failed to complete his speech as he was booed by mourners who accused CCC of abandoning Jaricha during his time of illness. Chibaya had to flee from the funeral fearing further embarrassment from mourners,” said the source.
The source added that the Jaricha family were angered that CCC failed to assist with funds for Jaricha’s medication only to appear at the funeral to give speeches. The source said that Jaricha suffered at the hands of some unknown assailants during previous elections including having his homestead torched and being severely beaten and walking 66km on foot to escape torture but his party failed to assist him with anything.
The source added that Jaricha’s eldest son, Jefta said that CCC should not politicise his father’s death as he was no longer a member of that opposition party.
Efforts to get a comment from Chibaya were futile as his mobile phones were not reachable.
