President Emmerson Mnangagwa today congratulated Zanu-PF candidates for winning in the just ended harmonized elections.
Addressing both winning and losing candidates at the party headquarters today, President said the win was as a result of hard work by the party.
"Let's improve our positive efforts while seeking to correct on our mistakes," President Mnangagwa said.
He said this was the first time the party managed to amass a total of 2.4 votes in an election. He added that out of one hundred and thirty three parties in the country and twenty three Presidential candidates battled it out and Zanu-PF came out victorious.
"The party managed to garner two thirds majority by exceeding with five more seats,” said President.
"It takes only a drunkard to suggest a unity of Government under such circumstances. The party has a majority already," he said.
President Mnangagwa said the party could amend the constitution for the good of the people and the country at large.
The President encouraged loosing candidates to continue working for the party. He said we could not all be winners but the party was bigger than the individuals.
"The party will continue to look at the challenges the country is facing and address them considering that the party has the majority in Parliament,”
Zanu PF candidates came from all the ten provinces of the country led by their party chairpersons.
Mike Madiro, chairperson of Manicaland Province said," We look forward to exciting moments in the party, having twenty three Presidential candidates shows that Zimbabwe has matured in democracy."
He said as the party, they respected constructive criticism and divergent of views but he condemned violence that was orchestrated by Nelson Chamisa led MDC-Alliance party.
He said it was high time losers accept defeat and move on.
