The ZANU PF led Government has managed to re-organise the agriculture sector making the country food self-sufficient, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
Speaking at the Central Committee Session at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare yesterday, the President said that well thought-out measures have resulted in timeous distribution of farming inputs, competitive producer prices and requisite extension support.
“We have re-organised the agriculture sector, leading to the realisation of national food self-sufficiency. The timeous distribution of inputs, competitive producer prices and requisite extension support are now the norm. Agriculture exports have increased and a comprehensive Agriculture Food Systems Transformation Strategy has been implemented towards growing, not only our cropping sub-sectors, but also livestock fisheries and the horticulture sub-sector.
“This will be further be complimented by a total of 35 000 boreholes that are being drilled in our villages. Under our watch, the agriculture sector has grown in leaps and bounds as we continue increasing production and productivity on our God given land,” said President Mnangagwa.
Since the assumption to office by President Mnangagwa, investments across all sectors of the economy have been on a rapid growth trajectory resulting in numerous economic projects booming across the country. There has also been an improved convenience and connectivity to economic markets for Zimbabweans.
It’s not only the agriculture sector that has witnessed massive growth under the Second Republic but the mining and construction industries have also witnessed massive growth.
In 2019, Government set an ambitious target of achieving a US$12 billion mining sector by 2023. Currently, the mining sector has surpassed US$7.5 billion mark.
With Manhize Iron and Steel Company and Invictus gas and oil projects in the horizon, it is almost certain that the mining sector will achieve the US$12 billion mark without breaking a sweat.
Meanwhile, Government is also seized with programmes of creating Rural Industries. Currently Mwenezi has an Amarula processing plant and Mutoko has a Tomato paste processing plant whilst two more Plants under construction in Mashonaland Central province.
