Expose, reject groupings pursuing selfish interests: President

Zimbabweans have been urged to expose and reject groupings that pursue selfish, divisive and neo-colonial interests at the expense of national unity, peace, progress and prosperity.

Speaking during the burial of the late National Hero, Brigadier General Charles Kaneta in Harare, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said it was time that all Zimbabweans demonstrate the unquestionable national character and patriotism especially against global predators and their proxies.

“Now is the time for everyone to demonstrate the unquestionable national character and patriotism, especially against global predators and their local proxies who are bent on stifling our modernisation and development,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa also encouraged Zimbabweans to remain united and peaceful ahead of the 2023 Harmonised General Elections.

“As the 2023 Harmonised General Elections beckon, let us remain united and peaceful as Zimbabweans. Across the political and socio-economic spectrum, we must never allow our political contestations to degenerate into violence and hate,” he said.

Churches and all religious organisations were commended for praying and interceding for Zimbabwe and other National Institutions that are advancing peace, harmony and prosperity.

The calls for peace and unity by President Mnangagwa came after opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) had been on a violent spree which led to the destruction of property in Nyatsime during the funeral of Moreblessing Ali. A journalist, Ruvimbo Muchenje was also harassed and humiliated at the hands of CCC security officials at a rally in Chinhoyi. The party conveyed its apology through party Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere.
