The ZANU PF War Veterans League has thrown its weight behind President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the Party's sole Presidential candidate for next year's Harmonised General Elections.
This came out at the War Veterans Conference held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) in Harare today.
Reading the Conference resolutions to the delegates, the newly elected War Veterans National Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Tairo Mapuranga said that the war veterans have declared their unwavering support to the President ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.
“The War Veterans League declares its unwavering and unequivocal support to the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa as the sole ZANU PF Presidential candidate in the 2023 Harmonised Elections,” reads Cde Mapuranga.
Cde Mapuranga added that the War Veterans were deeply indebted to the President and the Party for restoring their dignity through the establishment of the War Veterans League as an integral organ of the Party.
The War Veterans also acknowledged that it was their responsibility to ensure that the revolutionary ideology of the Party and the country at large was passed on to the younger generation for purposes of preserving the liberation war history and the significant role played by the Party in liberating the people of Zimbabwe from colonial bondage.
According to the War Veterans, the enactment of the Patriotic Bill should be expedited in order to effectively protect the country and its leadership from treasonous machinations by political malcontents. They further resolved that retired security personnel should be incorporated into the war veteran’s wing in order to keep the wing functional.
Cde Mapuranga added that the War Veterans have also resolved that all beneficiaries of the land reform programme should fully utilize the land and those without capacity should be allocated land commensurate with their ability while the downsized land is allocated to those still on the waiting list.
Meanwhile, the Women’s League and Youth League wings held their conferences earlier this year and have also endorsed President Mnangagwa as the sole Party candidate for the 2023 Presidential elections.
