ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans League, Douglas Mahiya has urged the opposition political parties to work towards building the economy of the country.
Mahiya said this yesterday while addressing a press conference at ZANU PF Headquarters ahead of the official opening of the War Veterans Conference.
“Zimbabwe has political power from the Liberation Struggle. Opposition political parties should contribute to building the economy not to focus on power which we already achieved,” he said.
Mahiya commended the holding of the War Veterans Conference stressing that it provides an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the liberation struggle.
“This event is important since it reflects on our retention of power through the armed struggle. We thank our President for accomplishing what we fought for,” he said.
Mahiya took the opportunity to inform the Party and nation that the War Veterans unanimously rally behind President Mnangagwa`s candidature for the 2023 Harmonized General Elections.
“His Excellency, the President Cde E.D Mnangagwa, who is also our Guest of honour at this Conference, is the sole Presidential candidate in our forthcoming 2023 Harmonized Elections,” Mahiya said.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF Secretary for Commissariat, Mike Bimha reiterated the importance of holding the conference stating that the War veterans have a deeper understanding of the party and its direction, hence a lot can be learnt from them in moving the vision forward.
The Politburo, Central Committee, National Consultative Assembly members, Youth and Women’s Leagues, including foreign sister parties, which include SWAPO, NCA, FRELIMO, Ambassadors from Russia, China and Cuba have been invited to attend the Conference.
The conference will be held under the theme: “Force of the Past, Power of the Present and Inspiration of the Future.”
