Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate in the just ended Gokwe-Kabuyani by-elections, Costin Muguti, has accused his fellow party members of embezzling funds that were meant for the campaigns.
Leaked WhatsApp messages from a CCC WhatsApp group gleaned by this publication, exposed the chaos within CCC, where Muguti was accusing party member, Settlement Chikwinya of misappropriating donated funds that were meant for the by-election campaigns.
“We would like to thank you Australia and North America Change Champions for your valuable contributions in pursuit of the August 27, 2022 victory. Without you, even the little we managed to get could not have been achievable. Let me however be honest to mention that despite your sincere sacrifices and desire for victory, a substantial amount of your contributions did not get to us.
“For instance, you sent US$300.00 two days before elections because we were in serious arrears. Where is the money?” asked Muguti.
Muguti further claimed that it would be impossible for CCC to be the next government if it cannot account for small amounts of money. He added that after the by-elections, he was left in debt with no one to financially assist him to settle the debts.
“Honourable Chikwinya and your cluster colleagues please nyaraiwo. The money was sourced for Gokwe-Kabuyani and sent to you by people who thought they were helping a genuine situation in Gokwe-Kabuyani. As a candidate, I’m left alone now as if I was an independent candidate. Ndasara nezvikwereti imi muchitidyira mari yedu .This is very unfair,” fumed Muguti.
Muguti further accused his party of under-funding his electoral campaign in Gokwe-Kabuyani, while attributing his humiliating defeat to lack of resources.
“Nhasi you start pointing fingers at the candidate saying ndiye akatidyisa. Where are the T-shirts you promised? Did you give us any fuel allocation? Did you give anything for communication?” asked Muguti.
Muguti added that the CCC’s 2023 electoral campaigns were going to be a disaster unless members repent from the habit of misappropriating funds. He further claimed that CCC’s questionable handling of donated resources will make other people hesitant to donate to the party in future.
Meanwhile, Chikwinya has promised to account for every donation, presenting a comprehensive financial report as soon as possible.
