Warren Park residents resort to contaminated water for domestic use

Warren Park residents have resorted to sourcing water from burst pipes and unprotected wells as Citizens Coalition for Change led council continue to fail on their mandate to provide services.

Speaking to this publication, Mrs Irene Bosha of Warren Park said failure by Ward 15 Councillor, Hon. Tichaona Mhetu had forced residents to resort to acquiring water from burst pipes and unprotected wells. According to Bosha, attempts to engage Mhetu reached a brick wall as he no longer has offices that residents can locate him.

“Residents have since resorted to using water from burst pipes and open wells for drinking, washing and other domestic use in their homes. We have tried to engage our councillor Tichaona Mhetu but efforts have yielded nothing as the councillor no longer possesses an office for us to engage him,” said Bosha.

A senior citizen, Mbuya Tino bemoaned the lack of concern by Warren Park council to collect refuse from homes and shopping centres citing that refuse collection was efficient during ZANU PF days in council.

“I last saw a fully functional refuse collection system during ZANU PF time in office. When Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) came into office, services slowly suffered an unnatural death to a point where we no longer have water, no refuse collection and roads are riddled with portholes,” said Mbuya Tino.

In April 2022 during a clean-up campaign in Shamva, President Mnangagwa castigated opposition-run urban councils for scuttling Government efforts to promote cleanliness, order and restore splendour to the towns and cities countrywide. Some critics have alleged that opposition parties are deliberately diverting rate payers’ money for their political party’s funding.

Some critics have also argued that CCC efforts to make sure that Pomona Waste to Energy Plant deal flopped was premised on the need to cover up their funds siphoning cartel within the council.

In another case of mismanagement and corruption, Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is currently struggling to provide water services or refuse collection resulting in diarrhoea outbreaks in Pumula.
