Divisions are not tolerated in ZANU PF: President

Democracy allows for contestations as well as differences in opinions; however that must never be allowed to degenerate into divisions.

This was said by President Mnangagwa while addressing the 365th session of the ZANU PF Politburo in Harare yesterday.

“By its nature, democracy is about contestation as well as differences in opinions. However, these must never be allowed to degenerate into divisions,” said the President.

The President commended the Party for the successful restructuring of the War Veterans League across the country and emphasised the importance of unity around a common objective.

“The war of liberation and subsequent victory over the oppressive white colonial administration remind us all of the importance of uniting around a common goal. In light of this, I urge members of the War Veterans League who have grievances to use the correct Party systems and procedures,” added the President.

The President heavily warned those who were clandestinely interfering with the operations of the War Veterans League and urged the war veterans to be disciplined and reject interference.

President Mnangagwa said that ZANU PF remains the people’s Party and will always preserve the overarching goal of uniting the people of Zimbabwe under its banner.

“ZANU PF remains a people’s Party and will preserve the overarching goal to unite the people of this great country under its banner. Let us therefore defend and advance policies, programmes and projects that guarantee that our people remain owners and custodians of their own destiny,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa said the Party structures must be vibrant and recruit many members into the Party. He noted that the multitudes of people who were joining ZANU PF and said that going forward new members must be imparted with the Party’s ideology, values and culture.

The President informed that economic measures implemented by the Government were bearing fruits and urged the Party’s leadership to raise the consciousness of the grassroots membership on these economic matters. He further urged the Party to mobilise every household to take part in the various agriculture initiatives as the Summer Cropping Season beckons.

President Mnangagwa added that the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme has been scaled up to cover a target of three million households. He added that Party leaders are exhorted to provide support and guidance while mobilising many people to participate in the programme.

Meanwhile, the President emphasised that as the nation approaches the 2023 Harmonised General Elections, the spirit of unity, peace and love must prevail across the country.
