President Mnangagwa has implored the business sector to stop the habit of wanton price increases and exhorted them to assume a strong sense of national responsibility.
Speaking at the burial of the late national hero, Cde Major General (Retd) Sikhulile Simpson Nyathi at the National Heroes Acre today, the President said the Government was undertaking control mechanisms to tame the current price increases.
“Meanwhile, my Government is seized with the implementation of mechanisms to rein in the current increases in prices. In this regard, I exhort business and other stakeholders across various sectors of the economy to assume a strong sense of national responsibility and commit to the overall realisation of sustainable socio-economic development and improved quality of our people,” said the President.
The President added that speculative and unethical business behaviour will never be tolerated as this will weigh on the country’s projected growth of the economy.
President Mnangagwa further urged people of Zimbabwe to vote for ZANU PF in the next plebiscite in order to protect the gains of independence. He added that violence will not be tolerated in next year’s elections.
“Furthermore, I call upon all Zimbabweans, civic society organisations and political parties to conduct themselves in a peaceful and non-violent manner. Violence must never be allowed in all our interactions,” said the President.
The President reiterated the mantra, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’ and said that the Government was leaving no place and no one behind in terms of development.
President Mnangagwa commended the security sector for dutifully executing their constitutional mandate of guaranteeing the peaceful, secure and stable environment the country is enjoying.
Turning to Cde Nyathi, the President described him as an intelligent, articulate, humble and likeable character that devoted much of his time to serving the nation.
President Mnangagwa said that Cde Nyathi was prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice with regards the attainment of sovereignty, independence, nationhood and democracy.
Cde Nyathi died on 5 June 2022 at Josiah Magama Barracks Referral Hospital after a long illness. He was 61.
