The Afrobarometer, a South Africa based non-profit research network, has predicted President Mnangagwa’s electoral victory in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections.
During the Mass Public Opinion Institute (MPOI) meeting held in Bulawayo yesterday, Stephen Ndoma who carried a survey on behalf of the Afrobarometer, said that about 51 percent of Zimbabweans still trust President Mnangagwa to lead the nation.
According to Ndoma, the survey was carried on a sample size of 1 200 citizens who reside in Harare, Bulawayo and the two Matebeleland Provinces where the majority said that they were satisfied by President Mnangagwa’s rule. Ndoma added that the study had an error margin of plus or minus three percent, pointing out to a 95 percent confidence level.
The Afrobarometer prediction resonates with that of the British based Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) in 2021, which predicted a win for President Mnangagwa in next year’s elections.
“The next presidential and legislative elections are due in 2023. We expect President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF to win,” said EIU.
EIU further predicted that the country’s economy would stabilise and tame hyperinflation.
“From 2022 onwards, the economic crisis will slowly abate driven by improvements in energy production and in agriculture and mining output. This will improve Zimbabwe’s foreign currency reserves, supporting the local currency and moderating inflation,” added EIU.
Meanwhile, in a bid to resoundingly win next year’s plebiscite, the ruling ZANU PF Party has declared this coming Saturday as a National Cell Day reserved to take stock of its structures. The Party is in a serious mobilisation drive as it seeks to attain at least five million votes in next year’s elections.
