President Mnangagwa has expressed concern over the rise in armed robberies, ritual killings and road traffic accidents in Zimbabwe. He urged all the State security agencies to act accordingly to try and curb this rapid human mortality.
President Mnangagwa said this at the burial ceremony of the late Major General (Rtd) Godfrey Chanakira at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, yesterday.
“I am, however, concerned about the rising cases of armed robberies and ritual murders occurring in our country. I, thus, exhort stakeholders in the criminal justice to speedily deal with these emerging negative trends.
“Equally worrisome are road traffic accidents on our major highways. I call upon drivers to always exercise extreme caution,” said the President.
The President also acknowledged and commended the sacrifices made by (Rtd) Major General Chanakira and other fallen and living heroes.
“The late National Hero (Rtd) Major General Chanakira will be remembered as a unifier and an exemplary legend who helped create an efficient military payment system that meets the contemporary needs of the Zimbabwe National Army.
He added that, “No amount of compensation would equal the sacrifices made by the selfless sons and daughters of the land. It is to this effect that the Second Republic will continue to review their welfare in order to cushion them in these harsh economic environments.
“The nation acknowledges their supreme sacrifices and no amount of compensation to these gallant men and women will ever equal their contribution to our beloved country. Therefore, in honour of their selfless services, the Second Republic will continue to improve the welfare of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle,” said the President
The President saluted the services and loyalty of the late National Hero and said the Nation would cherish his unwavering loyalty and dedication to our beloved motherland.
