President Mnangagwa has today commended the notable growth that is currently being witnessed in the mining sector.
Speaking in Victoria Falls during the Chamber of Mines Annual General Conference, the President applauded the mining sector for immensely contributing to the country’s economy.
“I however want to commend the mining stakeholders in our country for the notable milestones realised across the key minerals such as gold which rose by 86 percent, diamonds increasing by 51 percent, coal adding 21 percent and platinum by 13 percent. This is highly commendable, well done to you all,” said the President.
The President urged mining houses to scale up the implementation of robust and forward looking strategies for accelerated and sustained growth.
“Despite these successes and in line with the theme of this year’s Conference, “Consolidating Growth Drivers for the Mining Industry”, I urge mining houses to scale up the implementation of robust and forward looking strategies for accelerated and sustained growth,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa said that it was imperative for the mining and metals industry to take advantage of the rebounding commodity prices and other developments such as the boom in the construction sector and increased global demand for steel to boost their productions.
The President added that growth in the mining sector would be anchored on increased investments in new technologies and operations which are currently in line with Government’s thrust on value addition and beneficiation. He further said that gone were the days of exporting products in their raw form and said that focus should now be put on unlocking value from the minerals to achieve sustainable socio-economic development.
According to the President, the mining sector should leverage on the 2nd Republic’s remodelled education and training pathway, Education 5.0, which was informed by the gap in professional skills in the country. He added that this must in turn ensure the nurturing of skilled professional and artisans to feed into the country’s development trajectory.
Meanwhile, the President urged the mining sector to be a model employer and favourably remunerate its workers.
