Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa is reportedly brewing a lie to cover up the seizure of his alleged armoured vehicle at Beitbridge Border Post.
A source who spoke to this publication said Chamisa was in panic mode after a plot to smuggle a black armoured Mercedes Benz AMG S63 was foiled last week by alert Vehicle Theft Squad at Beitbridge Border Post.
According to the source, Chamisa is now contemplating to lie to the CCC members that the funds donated to purchase the armoured vehicle for him were diverted to fund the 2023 electoral campaign programmes.
“Chamisa is in a quandary as far as the armoured vehicle is concerned. He doesn’t want the party members to know that the vehicle was intercepted. He is afraid of a backlash from those who contributed the over US$120 000 for the vehicle. Chamisa is now planning to lie to the people that the donated funds were eventually diverted to fund the 2023 election campaigns,” said the source.
The same source said that Chamisa wanted to ride on the seizure of the vehicle to portray himself as an unselfish leader who would forego some luxuries to support the party.
“Chamisa now wants to use the seizure of the vehicle to his advantage. He now wants to portray himself as a selfless leader who would forego some luxuries to finance the party,” said the source.
According to the source, Chamisa is at loggerheads with some of his lieutenants who disagreed with Chamisa’s plot to smuggle the vehicle. However, he has directed that the issue of the seizure of the vehicle should not be cascaded down to the party structures so as not to dampen the morale of the people.
Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from CCC interim spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere were futile as she didn’t respond to the emails and WhatsApp messages sent to her.
