A sinister plot by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to smuggle an armoured vehicle for Nelson Chamisa has been foiled by alert Vehicle Theft Squad at Beitbridge Border Post on Monday last week.
A source who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said that the CCC wanted to smuggle a black armoured Mercedes Benz AMG S63 for their leader Chamisa without following all protocols at the border.
“The CCC bought a black armoured Mercedes Benz AMG S63 for Chamisa from South Africa and they wanted to bring it to Zimbabwe without following proper procedures at Beitbridge Border Post. They devised a plan to smuggle the vehicle with fake Zimbabwean number plates. The alert VTS officers picked up the anomaly and intercepted the vehicle,” said the source.
According to the source, the person who was driving Chamisa’s alleged vehicle disappeared from the scene after the vehicle was intercepted, leaving the vehicle locked. Efforts to locate the driver have been futile as the mobile phones he provided were no longer reachable.
The source added that an investigation by the VTS officers revealed that the number plates on Chamisa’s vehicle were not authentic as they belonged to a white Subaru Legacy belonging to one Silver Soko.
“The idea was to hoodwink the border officials into believing that the armoured vehicle was already registered in Zimbabwe. However, a thorough investigation revealed that the number plates on Chamisa’s Mercedes Benz actually belonged to a white Subaru Legacy belonging to Silver Soko,” added the source.
According to the source, the intercepted armoured vehicle was also illegally fitted with blue lights on the grill and on top of the dashboard. The source said that such blue light are only a preserve for Very Important Persons (VIPs).
Efforts by this publication to get a comment from CCC interim spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere were futile as she didn’t respond to an email sent to her yesterday. Her mobile phones were also not reachable.
