The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa is still bitter with MDC-T president, Douglas Mwonzora for elbowing him out of that party and is working towards destroying Mwonzora’s political career.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa was plotting to influence some MDC-T senior members to challenge Mwonzora at that party’s elective congress slated for July this year.
According to the source, Chamisa has since sent his emissaries to convince MDC-T National Chairperson Morgan Komichi to contest against Mwonzora at the congress.
“Chamisa has not yet forgiven Mwonzora for elbowing him out of the MDC-T. He has since plotted a plan to have Komichi challenge Mwonzora at that party’s congress. The idea is for Komichi to emerge victorious and relegate Mwonzora to a card carrying member,” said the source.
The source added that Chamisa was working with former MDC-T Harare provincial chairperson, Zivanai Mhetu and provincial member, Fungai Chiposi so that they influence other MDC-T members to dump Mwonzora.
The same source further claimed that Chamisa and his allies were telling the MDC-T members that Mwonzora was a bad omen for that party as he failed to steer the MDC-T to victory in the just ended by-elections.
According to the source, Mwonzora was made aware of Chamisa’s manoeuvres and he swiftly reshuffled his national executive to weed out the bad apples.
“Mwonzora got wind of Chamisa’s plan to cause chaos within the MDC-T and he has since reshuffled his executive as a counter measure to Chamisa’s plot. Mwonzora brought his trusted lieutenants like Rhino Mashaya, Mukombwe Dube, Benevolence Taisekwa, Gift Chimanikire, Witness Dube and Festus Dumbu to the National Executive Council,” said the source.
Meanwhile, another source revealed that Chamisa has made a secret pact with some local journalists so that they could write negative stories about Mwonzora to discredit him ahead of the congress.
