President Emmerson Mnangagwa told a gathering in Binga yesterday that although Zanu PF did not prevail in the recent by-elections in Binga North, the narrow gap between the winning and losing candidates showed that some are beginning to realise that Zanu PF is the only party that can bring development.
Speaking during the handover of Fishing Rigs to Binga Chiefs yesterday, the President said the losing gap had been significantly narrowed. He implored the electorate to vote for the ruling party in the forthcoming Harmonised General Elections saying working with the ruling party makes it a lot easier for their grievances to reach authorities and subsequently get attention.
“We thank you for the votes. Now I want you to assure me that I will have your votes during the forthcoming elections. Working with the ruling party makes it easy for your grievances to be heard and addressed. What does the opposition do if you tell them your grievances? I am happy that some of you are beginning to realise this," said the President.
He warned party leaders in the province to desist from internal squabbling. The President also assured the opposition members that they would also benefit from Government projects. He said even in a family, the father would not stop embracing a delinquent child.
“Those who cause disunity in the party must stop immediately. The party is bigger than an individual, even me,” warned the President.
The President assured the Binga community that they would get free food from Government.
“I am informed that there are so many Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in this district who are donating food to you. Government will give you food freely so that you do not depend on donors. We are also introducing programmes like the Fishing Rigs to empower you so that you don’t rely on NGOs,” said the President.
In the recent by-elections, Zanu PF’s candidate, Kudakwashe Munsanka lost to CCC’s Prince Dubeko Sibanda by a small margin of about 2 000. In 2018, MDC Alliance now CCC garnered 18 428, while Zanu PF got 7751.
