President Emmerson Mnangagwa today officiated the ground breaking ceremony of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe (R.G.M.) International Airport development project in Harare today, in a move that compliments the New Administration’s focus of turning around the economy.
The President said the ground breaking ceremony of R.G.M. International Airport was a reflection of his Government commitment towards development of all economic sectors.
“Today’s event is taking place following the commissioning of the commencements of works on the modernisation and upgrade of Beitbridge Border Post and other similar infrastructure investment initiatives in mining, energy, ICTs, agriculture and education sectors, among others. These are a reflection of my Government’s commitment towards infrastructure development in all sectors of the economy...and the facilitation of the holistic growth of our country’s economy,” said the President.
President Mnagagwa also said that the project had commenced soon after the Chinese Government commitment to unveil funding which showed the high level of cooperation between the two countries.
“The commencement of this project, soon after the commitment by the People’s Republic of China to avail funding, is a clear testimony of the nature and potential of rapid development and pragmatic cooperation between our two countries under the all-encompassing with the modernisation of our border posts for the overall benefit of trade, industry, business and travellers alike,” said the President.
Addressing the distinguished guests, the President said modern infrastructure development had a role of enabling industrialisation.
“Modern infrastructure is a key enabler for industrialisation, human development and economic growth...airports are the basic physical structure needed for any modern society, enterprise or economy to function efficiently. It facilitates the movement of goods and persons, tourists and investors among others,” said President Mnangagwa.
Harare Post has also learnt that the President expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Xi Jinping, for the decision to unlock funding for various national projects, such as the Hwange 7 and 8 Thermal Power Projects and the construction of Kunzvi-Musami Dam, which has complemented the New Government’s efforts to leapfrog the country’s development efforts.
