President Emmerson Mnangagwa has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee to tackle drug and substance abuse, after realising the negative effects it was having on society.

Speaking through his official twitter handle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, explained the resolve behind the need to urgently set up a Committee to tackle drug abuse.

“Having noted the serious adverse effects substance abuse is having on both individual health and societal wellbeing, President Mnangagwa has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee on Tackling Substance Abuse menace among the youths,” said Mangwana.

Many people applauded the move taken by the President to tackle the scourge that threatens to destroy the future generation, netizen Tafadzwa Karisa agreed to the idea and said, “That is a good move by the President, but however there is need for Government to partner with some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in order to educate the youths and the nation on the dangers of these drugs and substances…Im also behind inspiring a drug free society, a drug free Zimbabwe”

A number of NGOs have come forward indicating their interest to work with the lead Ministry in the fight against substance abuse, the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

Youths Against Drug and Substance Abuse (YADSA zim), a registered non-profit making organisation has answered the call to fight substance abuse and has pledged to support the cause.

“We are a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to freeing our society from destructive effects of drug and substance abuse.  We look forward to working with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare in innovating and implementing sustainable prevention and rehabilitation strategies,” read the post on their Twitter Handle.

Reachout World, another registered NGO said, “We are ready to partner on freeing the society from dangerous drugs.  A nationwide drug abuse campaign has been in the pipeline and it needs all the partners it can get.”

Meanwhile, the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa, has encouraged rowdiness, civil disobedience, destruction of property and harm to people’s lives and livelihoods by ensuring their youths are high on substance abuse before sending them off to the streets to commit these heinous acts.  The MDC Alliance has on several occasions bought illicit beer and drugs to intoxicate the youths and send them to commit civil unrest.  They don’t create positive recreation for the youths but rather use them as and when they want by luring them with intoxicating substance.  This will soon come to end as the Inter-Ministerial Committee hits the ground running.

Drug lords and their cartels should be aware that the net is closing in on them and their activities, recently the Zimbabwe Republic Police arrested a total of 93 drug peddlers and recovered drugs worth over $8,2 million, under the ongoing operation, "No to Crystal Meth', as they intensified the operation against drug peddlers.
