Zim tops region’s vaccination ranking

Zimbabwe has so far inoculated 7.3 percent of the population and continues to outpace regional peers in the Coronavirus vaccination drive, latest statistics show.

According to Africa CDC statistics released last week, Zimbabwe is among the top five countries in Africa with regards to successful deployment of the vaccination program.

"East African Seychelles has far inoculated 68.1 percent of population followed by Morocco at 30.5 percent.

"Tunisia is on 10.5 percent while Equatorial Guinea is on 9,4 percent.

"Botswana completes the top hitters at 5.5 percent."

As of last week, about 1.5 million people had received two jabs, while around 600 000 people had taken the first jab.

The cumulative figure of people who have received jabs is at 2.1 million people.

Zimbabwe has a target to vaccinate at least 10 million people to achieve herd immunity.

Apart from the national vaccination drive, the private sector has also helped in securing and also deployment of jabs.

The private sector under the Business Preparedness and Prevention Response Initiative led by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industry also targets to play a significant role in the vaccination drive.

President Emerson Mnangagwa has drawn global high praise for the successful vaccination program.

So far, Zimbabwe's tourism sector begun to notice tinkering lights owing to it's safe destination status.
