Government Chief Whip and Gutu South legislator, Cde Pupurai Togarepi has described the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as appendages of the West with a sinister agenda of causing regime change in the country.
Speaking to this publication recently, Cde Togarepi castigated the CSOs for pushing an evil agenda of the country’s former colonisers.
“The present CSOs are not real CSOs as they are an appendage of the Western countries. The majority of them came to Zimbabwe pretending to be social welfare or human rights organisations yet they are tools of re-colonisation and regime change,” said Cde Togarepi.
Cde Togarepi added that the CSOs had been deployed to Zimbabwe by their Western handlers to brainwash Zimbabweans into believing that the ruling ZANU PF was not good enough for the people of Zimbabwe.
“The majority of the CSOs have nothing to do with the economic development of the country. They are political institutions that push the regime change agenda of our erstwhile colonisers. They are on a mission of brainwashing the local people into believing that the ruling ZANU PF has failed to steer the country to economic prosperity. They are not Zimbabwean at all but they pretend to represent the interests of the local people,” said Togarepi.
The Gokwe South legislator added that the majority of the CSOs were being financed by the West to distort the country’s developmental programmes as well as the country’s vision. He added that the handlers of the CSOs had managed to recruit some locals, especially those in the opposition parties, to be foot soldiers of the West in its bid to unconstitutionally dethrone the Government and reverse the gains of the liberation struggle.
Cde Togarepi also took a swipe at some private media houses that are being financed by the country’s detractors to perpetuate a narrative of a country in crisis. He said some private media had nothing positive to write about the country as their editorial policy was only centered on pleasing the interests of their handlers.
Recently there were reports that leader of Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC), a group of CSOs, Blessing Vava has been recruited by the embattled G40 to spearhead its political activities within the country. It was also reported that the CSOs are being financed by the US Embassy in Harare to help mobilise people on behalf of the MDC Alliance ahead of the 2023 elections.
