Chamisa’s plot to oust Mwonzora thickens

There are concerted efforts by some members of the MDC T working in cahoots with the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance to dethrone Douglas Mwonzora as the MDC T president, the Harare Post has learnt.

A source who confided in this publication said there were people in MDC T who were being used by the MDC Alliance to have Mwonzora arrested and subsequently ousted from the party’s presidency.

“The MDC Alliance is using some of our members to challenge the legality of Mwonzora’s premiership. They have resolved to use the US based MDC T chairperson, Den Moyo to set up a legal team that will challenge Mwonzora’s presidency in the courts. Moyo is working under the instructions of Chamisa and some members of MDC T whom I cannot mention for now,” said the source.

The source added that Mwonzora was being accused of rigging last December’s MDC T congress where he convincingly thumped Thokozani Khupe, Morgan Komichi and Elias Mudzuri.

According to the source, Moyo is Chamisa’s political pawn who is being used to settle personal vendettas between Chamisa and Mwonzora.

The source said Chamisa was leaving no stone unturned until he destroyed the MDC T.

However, in an interview with this publication, Mwonzora scoffed at Moyo’s machinations and reaffirmed that he was the legitimate leader of the MDC T as has been decided by that party’s congress last year.

“Im not worried by what Moyo is doing or planning to do. Moyo is just a political pawn who is being used by members of the MDC Alliance as well as some members of the MDC T. I will not lose sleep over their evil plots as I know that they will not win,” said Mwonzora.

Mwonzora added that Moyo had no right to challenge the results of a congress he didn’t attend.

“How can Moyo challenge the results of an election he didn’t participate in? He was not in Zimbabwe when the congress was held and he is not aware of what transpired during the congress. If he continues with this wayward behaviour, he risks being expelled from the party,” added Mwonzora.

Since last year’s MDC T’s congress which Mwonzora won by 883 votes, there has been squabbles within that party as some members of that party continue to challenge his presidency citing massive rigging during the electoral process.
