Chamisa ‘hijacks’ Independence Day

Beleaguered MDC-Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has been castigated for intending to ride on Independence Day to smuggle in his party’s agenda, which has dismally failed to appeal to the electorate.

In his typical penchant for hijacking funerals, and turning them into political rallies, he has yet again turned this year’s Independence Day into some virtual rally, hoping to sell his party’s #Agenda 2021, Citizens Convergence for Change (CCC) theme.

In his infamous Independence Day speech, Chamisa attempted to smuggle in his convergence theme, which has had a stillbirth since its pronouncement due to its emphasis on financial funding from the public, while lacking meaningful ideas.

“Independence was a product of citizens’ convergence around the liberation idea and promise – the liberation consensus … Our answer today lies in us all answering to the CONVERGENCE CALL,” he said.

“The call for a new national consensus entails the convergence of all citizens for real change and national transformation.”

This, unfortunately sold out his desperate appeal to the electorate to rally behind him by linking Independence Day to his own CCC campaign which the party is currently running with, but has no takers.

“This Independence Day is a moment to re-imagine the liberation promise through a citizens’ convergence for change. Now is the time to have a citizens’ convergence for change to give true meaning to independence and patriotism,” he pleaded.

He rhetorically went on and on about the need to converge in order to rebuild the country, for political rights, civil liberties, economic empowerment, national healing, among a host of other things, already under implementation by the Government.

Political analysts, however, advised the opposition leader to instead seek guidance on proper mobilization techniques instead of continuously hoping to ride on public events and the country’s already known legacy.

“Chamisa should grow up and come up with proper winning strategies if he is to compete with Zanu-PF in 2023. And it certainly does not include him riding on already well known public events to sell his ideas. His useless, endless speeches is the sole reason why the party continues dismantling by the day,” said political analyst, Raymond Mwando.
