Vic Falls responds positively to COVID vaccination

Victoria Falls residents have been applauded for their positive response to the COVID-19 vaccination programme, which saw a number of people getting their jabs last week.

Chairman of the Esteemed Victoria Falls Residents (EVFR) Kelvin Moyo said the overwhelming response by residents to the vaccines was a clear signal to the world that the city was now a safe tourist destination.

“We would like to appreciate our residents for the positive response on the rolling out of phase two COVID-19 vaccine in our City by his Excellency. This brilliant response saw a high percentage of Victoria Falls residents receive the vaccine last week. The positive response also sent a strong message to the world travellers and those who follow it on social media that indeed Victoria Falls is now safe and ready as a tourist destination,” said Moyo.

Mr Moyo, however warned the Victoria Falls residents as well as the generality of the people that being inoculated is not a passport for relaxation of the prescribed COVID-19 health regulations.

“We however would like to remind our residents that the vaccine is not a cure and we should still continue to practice safety precautions as gazetted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) COVID-19 safety regulations. The vaccine jab is not a passport for relaxation of the WHO COVID-19 fundamentals and it is incumbent upon our residents to ensure compliance to promote the fight against this pandemic.

“Of late there has been a notable proliferation of delinquent behaviour and people gathering in crowds in some parts of our town which is so worrying. We however want to appeal to all our residents to continue masking up, social distancing, have regular sanitization and avoid crowding or crowded places where necessary,” added Mr Moyo.

Last week, Government came up with a deliberate decision to roll-out vaccination to all adults in Victoria Falls, making it the first City in the country to have ordinary citizens inoculated under the second phase of the national vaccination programme.

The response in Victoria Falls was overwhelming as long winding queues were witnessed at the vaccination sites established around the City.

Government is targeting to vaccinate at least 10 million people free of charge on a voluntary basis to achieve herd immunity.
