MDC-A misfires on COVID-19 vaccines

by Political Reporter

Muddled MDC-A has exposed its ignorance regarding COVID-19 vaccines, proclaiming doubt on the ‘efficacy and safety’ of the best rated vaccine currently being rolled out by Government in the country.

In an effort to disrupt Government vaccine programme for the use of the Sinopham drug, the party issued a statement exposing its scientific ignorance on vaccines.

“As we have highlighted time and again, we support the roll out of a widespread vaccination drive in the fight against COVID-19. However, we have reservations around the efficacy and safety of the vaccines that have been rolled out thus far,” read the statement.

This statement comes after Government extended a hand to political parties to get a jab in Victoria Falls together with President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a show of faith on the vaccines to the public.

Commenting on MDC’s standpoint, medical practitioners dismissed and slammed the reckless statement which they said was ill-informed.

“The MDC is clearly not conversant with current global vaccination trends. Sinopham is the preferred vaccine because of its efficacy,” said Doctor Tendai Nyambuya.

“ Only last week the European Union wrote to the Chinese Government seeking authorities to release the jabs for the EU. It’s clear the MDC are shooting from the hip and do not have up-to-date information on the available vaccines.”

“Which vaccines does MDC recommend? Their reservations around the efficiency and safety of the vaccines should be based on scientific evidence not politicking,” added pharmacist, Sibusiso Khumalo.

Since it has become a norm for the MDC to oppose any Government initiated programs, health experts are urging the public to look past cheap politics and instead safeguard their lives.

“It seems the MDC is pushing for an anti-vaccination agenda, without offering scientific facts on the ground or any alternative. Even political activists such as Hopewell Chin’ono recently made a u-turn regarding the vaccines deciding to get vaccinated, despite previous calls condemning it,” advised Khumalo.
