The country’s water resources management, Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) says it’s working on the modalities to finalise and launch an instant billing programme in a bid to iron out billing bottlenecks that have hampered revenue collections over the years.
In a statement yesterday, Zinwa said the project aimed at bringing customer convenience through efficient billing.
“Under this new system, our operators will now move around with network enabled devices that allow them to produce bills as they read client meters.
“Clients will get their bills on the spot. This will reduce the cycle significantly. In the past, we used to have queries from clients not getting their bills on time or at all,” read the statement.
The launch of the new system looks set to be of huge impact to residents as Zinwa said the funds to be freed from the project would be ploughed back into service delivery.
“The resources used to distribute statements will now be channelled towards improving service delivery,” further read the statement.
The shortage or intermittent supply of fresh water remains a challenge in the country with most residents resorting to bulk water purchase from water delivery companies. The shortage of water has been attributed to poor management from council such as Harare City Council.
As such, Zinwa was tasked with managing the country’s water resources, and created through the ZINWA Act as part of the Government’s efforts to reform the country’s water sector.
