Netizens have condemned the behaviour of rowdy MDC Alliance supporters who stormed Harare Magistrate Court yesterday, violently demanding the release of Job Sikhala.
Sikhala, who is the MDC Alliance’s vice chairperson, was arrested last Friday for inciting the public to violently demonstrate against the Government on 31 July 2020. However, the planned protests flopped after Zimbabweans ignored the call to protest.
The MDC Alliance supporters, who were visibly heavily intoxicated, forced their entry at Harare Magistrate Court and started singing obscene and derogatory songs.
Some of them were seen holding bottles of Broncclear, a cough relief medicine which is called 'Bronco' in street lingo, while openly provoking the police with unprintable words.
“It’s a shame that the MDC- Alliance have resorted to hiring rogue youths to cause a scene at courts so that they can shoot some videos to send to their Western handlers,” tweeted one Tariro Musarurwa.
One Matthew Kunyeda said, “It’s a pity that the MDC Alliance are now taking advantage of youths who have alcohol problems to stage unlawful demonstrations, while they comfortably relax in their homes.”
Another netizen, Makhado, said, “What were these MDC hooligans doing at courts while armed with knives? Is this how people demonstrate while wielding dangerous weapons? The police should have arrested those illegal protesters to send a message to others that violent and unsanctioned protests are not tolerated in Zimbabwe”.
One Lovemore Magwaza also condemned the behaviour of the MDC Alliance supporters and said their behaviour cannot be tolerated in a country like Zimbabwe.
“Imagine a party with rowdy supporters like the MDC Alliance getting power, surely this country will degenerate into lawless society, where crimes will be the order of the day. This violent behaviour and the disrespect of our courts and the police is alien to Zimbabwe and should be condemned,” said Magwaza.
Another netizen, Joyce Mapako also added her voice and said, “I don’t think that even the Americans who are viewed as champions of democracy by the MDC Alliance would want their courts and police to be disrespected like that. I don’t think the generality of the Zimbabweans would support people who provoke and insult our law enforcement agents. I am still surprised why the rogue MDC Alliance supporters were not arrested. The police should not be lenient with law breakers”.
Meanwhile, Sikhala appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Lazini Ncube for bail application. He is expected back in court today for continuation of his application for challenging his placement on remand.
