ZANU PF has distanced itself from the fake letter that has been making the rounds on social media, admonishing the originators to be wary of the recently gazetted Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill.
In a press statement ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, distanced the Party from the fake letter which claimed that ZANU PF distributes food aid on partisan lines.
“First, it is not Party policy to distribute relief aid on partisan basis, secondly, the template used to spread the fake letter is not the format that is used to publish the Party’s messages,” said Moyo.
Exposing the real reason behind the spread of fake news, Cde Moyo said, “We note however, this desperate attempt to substantiate and sustain false claims that food aid is being distributed on partisan basis by purveyors of fake news, who in turn communicate such fake news to western diplomats in order for them to demonise the government, Party and the leadership and in turn, scuttle the re-engagement process that is currently on-going.”
Furthermore the Party made it clear that it has no business in food distribution as there are departments within Government that are seized with that responsibility.
“It is not Party policy to distribute relief aid on partisan basis. The responsibility to distribute Government relief aid belongs to relevant Government structures and not the party,” added Moyo.
Lately the Government has been under siege from the opposition party and peddlers of fake news and fake abductions, all meant to draw attention on them and put them on the limelight. The ZANU PF Party has called on the law enforcements agents to investigate these bogus elements and bring them to book.
