The MDC Nelson Chamisa faction yesterday issued a press statement announcing, the expulsion of Elias Mudzuri, Morgan Komichi and Douglas Mwonzora from the MDC Alliance.
During the press statement, Sikhala, among other jabbers, blamed President Emmerson Mnangagwa and ZANU PF for the challenges currently manifesting in the opposition outfit.
Although Sikhala’s press statement was delivered with vigour and emotions, it was dismissed as drivel by various analysts.
Mudzuri described the press statement as a waste of time and reiterated that the MDC Alliance was a non-existent party with no authority to withdraw or fire anyone.
Mudzuri instead urged all disgruntled MDC members to go for an extra ordinary congress as directed by the Supreme Court instead of engaging in unnecessary political bickering.
“How can I be fired from Parliament by a non - existent political party? Ncube (Welshman) fired Tsvangirai (Morgan) in 2005 but the party remained. (Tendai) Biti (in 2014) did the same but left the party intact. Today (yesterday) ,Sikhala fires us, but still the party shall remain. Let's go for the Extraordinary Congress,” said Mudzuri.
Obert Gutu also weighed in and said Sikhala’s press statement was just murmurs from a bitter man. Gutu further said the press statement was nothing but empty threats which would not change the course of Zimbabwean politics.
“They will rant. They will wail. They will huff and puff. They will hallucinate. They will blow hot air. They will issue empty threats, as usual. The cold, hard fact is that the horse has already bolted. It's too late now ,” tweeted Gutu yesterday.
Leader of Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD), Linda Masarira said it was cheap nonsense for the MDC Chamisa’s faction to blame ZANU-PF for their woes. She urged Chamisa faction to stop blame games.
“Job Sikhala should sit down and stop the blame games. Politics is a strategy and power game. It is not a game for sissies. Instead of exposing their ineptness, they should go back on the drawing board and re-strategize,” said Masarira.
Masarira further dismissed Sikhala’s presser as kindergarten politics and urged the MDC Chamisa faction to grow up and take responsibility for their problems.
“They should learn to lose like gentlemen and ladies and fight to win the next battle. Isn’t it sad that twenty years on, the MDC top officials, lawyers for that matter, still want to behave like kindergarten kids?” said Masarira.
Analyst Tashinga Chabayanzara also said Sikhala’s presser was rashly drafted as there was nothing tangible to deduce from the presser.
“The MDC (Chamisa faction) press statement was nothing but an emotional speech by Sikhala. The contents of the press statement clearly showed that it was rashly drafted as it lacked sense and logic,” said Chabayanzara.
The MDC has been thrown into turmoil following the Supreme Court ruling which bestowed the leadership reins of that party into Thokozane Khupe’s hands, demoting Chamisa to Secretary for Policy and Research according to the party’s 2014 structures.
