Pressure continues to pile on distressed former MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa as he faces imminent eviction from the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House (MRTH) which houses that party’s headquarters.
The looming ejection will come hard on the heels of a recall of his four legislators from Parliament.
MDC Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora has since requested the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to assist him to evict MDC Alliance from the MRTH.
Mwonzora wrote a letter to ZRP dated 28 April 2020 asking MDC Alliance to be removed from MRTH. In the letter, Mwonzora requested the Police to help them gain peaceful entry into the premises for purposes of fumigating and preparing the building as a safe and healthy working place. Mwonzora also asked the police to assist them to flash out criminal gangs occupying the premises so that they are free of any illegal or dangerous items.
A close contact within the Chamisa camp confirmed that MDC-A youths were currently housed at MRTH waiting to fight anyone who tries to occupy MRTH.
“It`s true that some MDC-A youths are housed at MRTH. Following the Supreme Court ruling that ruled in favour of Dr Thokozani Khupe, former MDC-A deputy president Tendai Biti activated the MDC youth militia to guard the building and disrupt Khupe and Mwonzora`s activities.
“About 23 trained youths are permanently housed at MRTH where they preparing to attack Mwonzora and Khupe whenever they come to occupy the building. It was a good idea for Mwonzora to approach the Police for assistance because truely speaking they can`t occupy the building on their own, they will face massive resistance from Chamisa`s thugs,” said the contact.
Contact said the youths drawn from all the provinces of the country were promised by Biti allowances of ZW $5000 each per month.
Yesterday`s recalling of four the MDC-T legislators on the grounds that they had ceased representing the opposition party’s interests came as an unexpected heavy blow to Chamisa.
The quartet includes Mr Prosper Mutseyami (Dangamvura-Chikanga) who was also the opposition party’s chief whip, Charlton Hwende (Kuwadzana East), Thabitha Khumalo (proportional representative Bulawayo Province) and Senator Lillian Timveous (Midlands).
Pro-Chamisa MDC youths are reportedly planning to engage in violent demonstrations in protest of the recalling of the four legislators. Meanwhile, Chamisa is yet to issue a statement on the trending issue.
The recalling of the legislators who were MDC-T members on secondment to MDC-Alliance, is trending on the social media with people saying those were Chamisa`s fruits of failing to respect party constitution.
