Recent reports by some alarmist media houses, who reported that the Victoria Falls are on the verge of drying up, were dismissed as hogwash and nonsensical by tour operators in Victoria Falls.
The media houses that were reporting negatively about the Victoria Falls were described by one tour operator as being controlled by journalists with sick minds.
A manager at Wild Horizons, Mr. Terry Mkandawire, said the negative media reports about the Victoria Falls caused a slight decline of at the number of local and international tourists who thronged Victoria Falls for Holiday.
“There has been a number of media and news organizations around the world reporting about the Victoria Falls potentially drying up. Whilst we are cognizant that climate change is a growing concern on a global level, and that it is potentially having an impact on countries throughout the world, what has been lacking in the media reports is an insight into the historic seasonal patterns and the resultant changes in water flow, which are vital pieces of information to ensure a clear perspective is maintained,” said Mkandawire.
He went further to inform this reporter that the seasonal rise and fall of the Zambezi River changes the look of Victoria Falls on a daily basis. However, the changes in water levels are less noticeable at places such as the Devil’s cataract and the main Falls.
This reporter took a tour of the famous Falls and was convinced that the Falls are far from drying up as insinuated by hostile media houses.
The smoke that thunders could be heard from a distance of nearly four kilometers and the raining forest is still raining as ever.
A huge number of tourists were seen taking selfies at the famous Devil’s Pool.
One tour guide who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity, said the Victoria Falls is still intact and urged this reporter to spread the news to the world that the Falls are not drying up.
“Those who want to visit should know the Falls are still intact and the Falls still remain as attractive as ever”, said the tour guide.
Last year, a reporter from the BBC reported that the mighty Victoria Falls are drying up, a report which was wrong and false. Those in the tourism industry in Victoria Falls had to come up with a campaign named #VictoriaFallsIsNotDry to inform the world about the true state of the Falls.
