Cash for MDC members to attend rally

…..as Masvingo people are bitter with Chamisa

The Movement for Democratic Change MDC has today dished out at least two hundred Zimbabwe dollars to its members in a bid to coerce them to attend the Morgan Tsvangirai commemorative rally set for tomorrow in Masvingo, the Harare Post can reveal.

A source who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity revealed that the MDC leadership had to dangle a ZWL200 dollar carrot as indications showed that many people would not attend the rally in protest of the suspension of MDC Masvingo Provincial executive by Nelson Chamisa last week.

“People are being given ZWL200 (Zimbabwe) dollars for them to attend a rally in Masvingo tomorrow. Those who are not in Harare will receive the money through their provincial Chairpersons.  ZWL200 is too little but with the factional fights currently bedevilling the party we are forced to participate for fear of being thrown in the wrong basket.  Not attending the rally will result in one being expelled”, said the source.

Morgan Tsvangirai, the former leader of the opposition outfit, died in February 2018 and today marks the second anniversary of his demise.

The MDC settled for a date that falls on a weekend to avoid embarrassment due to poor attendance as was the case in most of their rallies across the country.

The commemorative rally was initially set for Harare but Chamisa directed the MDC Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya, to change the venue to Masvingo so as to appease the people of Masvingo.

It was also revealed to this publication that the preparations for the rally are in quandary as many artists who were earmarked to perform at the rally are chickening out citing various reasons.

Meanwhile, Chamisa is already in Masvingo where he is planning to address an illegal gathering of MDC supporters who have been forced to gather outside Masvingo Magistrate’s court in solidarity with Job Sikhala who is facing treason charges.
