In support of His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of a middle class economy by 2030, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce, Raj Modi has embarked on a drive to lure businessmen and investors from Gujarati state of India, his country of birth, to invest in Zimbabwe, the Harare Post can report.
Talking to Gujarati online publication, Ahmedabad Mirror, Modi revealed that he is making efforts for Gujarati businessmen to flourish in Zimbabwe.
“I am a patriotic Zimbabwean, but being a Gujarati by birth, I am making efforts for Gujarati businessmen to flourish in Zimbabwe. During my trip to Gujarati recently I held talks with several Gujarati industrialists and businessmen to explain the opportunities available to them in my country,” he said.
In the meeting with the businessmen, Modi assured them that Zimbabwe is peaceful, safe and there is total state support to set up businesses in Zimbabwe. He also revealed that there are opportunities in the fields of Solar Power, Mining, Pharmaceuticals, Agriculture and Tourism Infrastructure Development.
“Gujarat’s Meghmani Group has expressed interest in setting up a chemical plant in Zimbabwe. Gujarat based Drashta Power has shown interest in supplying and assembling solar products in Zimbabwe. A business delegation of investors has also been planned to fly to Zimbabwe in February,” said the Deputy Minister.
Deputy Minister Modi’s efforts compliment President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s position that Zimbabwe is open for business and anyone who wants to invest in the country is free to do so as the country aims to achieve a middle class economy by the year 2030.
