“We don’t need God in politics”, MDC Provincial chairs speak out

By Christopher Makaza

An undoubted rift is developing between the MDC Provincial Chairpersons and the newly established MDC Chaplaincy Division, where the later is accused of overriding the activities of the party, Harare post can reveal.

A contact in the MDC Chaplaincy Division, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the developments and revealed that there is no harmony between the Provincial Executives and the Chaplaincy Division.

“It is shocking that the Provincial Chairs are resisting the Chaplaincy Division to freely operate in provinces. More so, the establishment of the division was a resolution passed at the national congress with stipulated roles. Some Provincial chairs have gone to the extent of telling us that we are canvassing for influential positions ahead of the 2023 elections behind the banner of organising prayer meetings. Amazingly, at one point a certain provincial chair told us openly that, we don’t need God in politics. Truly that’s shocking”, lamented the source.

The source further revealed that, the division has since approached Chamisa to quickly solve the matter, and Chamisa promised that he will clearly spell out the role of the division to the party structures.

“Even though he clearly spells out our role, the ground is no longer even to operate given such resistance from provincial leadership”, commented the source.
