Opposition MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa has once again made new sensational claims that the MDC traditional benefactors which include the United States (US) have apologised to him for allegedly abandoning ship and flirting with the President Emmerson Mnangagwa administration after the Operation Restore Legacy (ORL) in 2017 in the hope that President Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to power would bring about major political and economic reforms.
Chamisa said this while addressing that party’s National Standing Committee meeting held earlier this week.
“Our western partners including the US have apologised to me personally for abandoning the cause and flirting with Mr Mnangagwa’s administration after the 2017 ‘coup.’
“The partners had been fooled by Mr Mnangagwa and Zanu PF into thinking that the new dispensation would bring major political and economic reforms but alas, Mr Mnangagwa’s Government is just clueless and incapable of change,” claimed Chamisa.
During the same meeting, Chamisa also outrageously claimed that SADC leaders were now recognising him and were open to meet with him.
“The SADC leaders now recognise me and have in fact expressed preparedness to meet me and discuss about the country’s political environment more than Mr Mnangagwa.
“Some of the SADC leaders are saying I am still young and brilliant so I should accept defeat as I will definitely lead the country in future but I have said no, I am a pastor, I won’t lie to God by accepting the defeat that never was. I won the 2018 elections.”
Ironically, Chamisa’s statements come hot on the heels of the SADC’s organised anti-sanctions demonstration scheduled for 25 October 2019 in which the regional body has expressed unconditional support to Zimbabwe and President Mnangagwa.
Chamisa also threatened that he was going to lead the party in massive nationwide demonstrations, taking advantage of the economic instability, health sector crisis and civil unrest in the hope it get violent thereby attracting international attention.
He said “a harbinger of a dark cloud would soon cover Zimbabwe” without elaborating.
Chamisa then castigated the Youth and Women’s Assemblies, accusing them of being disjointed, saying that it was affecting their plans to keep sustained pressure on Zanu PF.
Chamisa is well known for uttering reckless statements which point to immaturity and over excitement, a case in point being his claims that he met the US President, Donald Trump and that the US had donated 15 billion to the MDC.
The fact that Chamisa has alleged that the US has apologised to him reeks of an agenda setting by the MDC leader, whom reports have revealed that he is under intense pressure from within his party to relax his conditions and engage President Mnangagwa in dialogue.
