A senior Victoria Falls Municipality employee has dismissed as false claims by the MDC, that their Councillor for Ward 2, Goshen Zhou donated two ambulances to the Municipality.
Zhou, who is also the MDC Matabeleland North Organising Secretary, has been all over the resort town claiming purchase of the equipment following their hand over.
An official from the Municipality who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity said Zhou “who runs a not so thriving hardware shop,” had no capacity to make such a donation, adding, “the good gesture came from “A” Point Safaris.”
“The best donation he can ever make could be a few bags of cement and maybe a load of sand,” said the official followed by a chuckle.
The official MDC Zimbabwe twitter handle first broke the fake news story before being retweeted by that party’s Real Change Magazine.
In a letter dated 17 July 2019, “A” Point Safaris first communicated with the Victoria Falls Municipality on their intention to make the donation.
In part, the letter written by the company’s director, Que Wei reads, “We hereby are writing this letter informing you that we are going to donate two ambulances to the Victoria Falls Municipality.
“We are going to donate two international world standard ambulances free of charge to Victoria Falls Municipality. This arrangement was done by Z.L.G and us as “A” Point Safaris.”
The letter further reads, “As two companies, we have already sourced the ambulances of which we expect them to arrive in a few days as they are in Mozambican port.”
Early this week, the ever excitable MDC Zimbabwe media team announced, “#ForThePeople: MDC Mat North Provincial Organiser and Councillor for ward 11 Victoria Falls urban, (#GoshenEdmoreZhou) donates 2 brand new ambulances to his ward and the entire #VicFalls community.”
