Information gathered by the Harare Post has revealed that the MDC National Secretary for Information and Publicity, Daniel Molokele tendered his resignation to that party’s Secretary General, Charlton Hwende on 26 September 2019.
A source privy to the happenings at the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House (MRTH) revealed to the publication that Molokele cited that he was being side-lined in major party programmes and decisions at the expense of his Deputy, Luke Tamborinyoka.
“In his resignation letter, Molokele cited that he was being undermined in carrying out his duties and alleged that the party leadership was recognising Tamborinyoka at his expense,” the source revealed.
The source added that the resignation letter was forwarded to that party leader, Nelson Chamisa who is said to be withholding the letter until he has deliberated the issue with both Molokele and Tamborinyoka.
“At the moment Chamisa is holding on to the letter until he has gotten a chance to speak to Molokele and Tamborinyoka as he fears factional feuding resultant from the resignation letter,” he said.
In support of Molekele’s assertion that he is being side-lined in major issues, in July of this year, Chamisa allegedly instructed Tamborinyoka to issue a press statement distancing the party from treasonous utterances made by the party’s Deputy National Chairperson, Job Sikhala which resulted in his arrest. Ordinarily, the statement should have been released by Molokele as the chief spokesperson.
Giving his analytical view of the developments, the source highlighted that the allegations by Molokele may just be a cover story and he may be one of the many MDC officials who have been lured to join the party being muted by Civic Society Organisations (CSO) who seem to have lost faith in the MDC.
Source further predicted a mass exodus of senior party members who have increasingly become disillusioned by Chamisa’s leadership and the current direction the party is headed.
