Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has confirmed that Dr Peter Magombeyi arrived safely in South Africa to seek medical treatment following allegations of abduction and torture, a week ago.
Previous reports claimed that the Zimbabwean Government was denying the allegedly abducted doctor passage to seek medical treatment in SA. Conflicting, the very same Government has instead facilitated his safe passage.
In a statement, confirming his travel, ZHDA confirmed that the said doctor had arrived well in SA, this Thursday evening.
“We are elated to inform you that Dr Peter Magombeyi arrived safely in SA and will receive medical attention there. Thank you for your continued support,” read the statement.
They also confirmed that him having travelled well, “Peter is fine. Currently in custody of his doctors. No police interference at the moment.”
This was against the background that doctors were accusing the state for denying him treatment in a foreign land, while the state argued that they still needed more time to investigate his kidnapping given that no culprits had been fingered as yet, as responsible for his disappearance.
Political commentator, Garry Chitsa commented, “Magombeyi’s investigation is still pending in the Zimbabwean courts, and there is nothing wrong with police intending to be through in their investigations and requesting his cooperation. Given a track record of fake kidnappings which have been previously orchestrated by opposition parties for political mileage in the country,” he said.
